Seek the Lord
“Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near.”
Isaiah 55:6
Throughout life, people are constantly searching for something.
We search for answers, peace, security, love, and meaning. We make plans, strive to achieve more, and try to find our place in this world. But among all these searches, there is one that matters not only for today, but for all eternity.
Seek the Lord.
This is not simply a call to learn something about God. A person may know a great deal about the Holy Scriptures, the history of Christianity, or even attend church regularly—and still not seek the Lord Himself.
To seek the Lord means to turn your heart toward Him. It means to desire to know Him, to hear His voice, to understand His will, and to allow Him to change your life.
Do Not Put It Off Until Later
The prophet Isaiah says:
“Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near.”
There is a particular urgency in these words.
People often think that they still have plenty of time. That one day they will certainly begin to think seriously about God. Later. When their problems are resolved. When there is more peace. When life becomes more stable.
But that day is constantly postponed.
Today, a person is busy with their own affairs. Tomorrow, new worries will appear. Sometimes we become so accustomed to living without God that we stop noticing His call.
That is precisely why Scripture says: seek Him now.
Not when everything becomes clear. Not when all doubts disappear. Not when life forces us to seek help.
If God is touching your heart today, do not leave His voice unanswered.
The Lord Is Near
Sometimes God seems distant to people.
Especially when life takes us through pain, loss, disappointment, or uncertainty. We may ask: “Where is God? Does He hear me? Does He see what I am going through?”
But the words of the prophet remind us: “Call upon Him while He is near.”
God is not a distant observer, indifferent to human life.
He reveals Himself. He speaks through His Word. He touches the human heart. He calls people to return to Him.
And when a person sincerely turns to God, they are not speaking into emptiness.
They are turning to the One who hears.
What Does It Mean to Seek God?
To seek the Lord does not simply mean asking Him to solve our problems.
Sometimes we begin to pray only when we can no longer see another way out. We want God’s help, but we do not always want God to direct our lives.
However, the true search for God begins with the question:
“Lord, what do You want from me?”
To seek Him means to open the Holy Scriptures not only to find words of encouragement, but to hear the truth.
To seek Him means to pray not only when we need something, but also when we simply want to be with Him.
To seek Him means to be willing to change.
Because an encounter with the living God never leaves a person unchanged.
Returning to God
The following verse says:
“Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto the Lord, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.”
Isaiah 55:7
To seek God also means being willing to leave behind what separates us from Him.
It may be a sin that we justify.
It may be pride that prevents us from recognizing our need for God.
It may be a way of life to which we have become so accustomed that we no longer want to change anything.
But God’s call is not only a call to leave the old behind.
It is an invitation to come home.
The Lord does not say: “Return, so that I may reject you.”
He says: “Return—and I will have mercy on you.”
This is the wonder of God’s grace.
Seek Him Today
Perhaps you have been hearing God’s voice for a long time.
Perhaps you have often thought that you need to take your faith more seriously.
Perhaps you have drifted away from God and do not know how to return.
Or perhaps you are only beginning your search.
Then these words are written for you as well:
“Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near.”
You do not have to become perfect before coming to God.
You do not have to fix your entire life first.
You simply need to take the first step—turn to Him.
Seek the Lord.
Open His Word.
Speak with Him in prayer.
Bring before Him your questions, fears, doubts, and hopes.
And do not postpone this search until someday.
Because perhaps the most important question today is not: “What else do I want to find in this life?”
But rather: “Am I seeking the One who gave me this life?”
“Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near.”
